We are running a version of phpBB called phpBB2x.

updated version of phpBB 2.0.23 (I believe we are up to phpBB2.0.25)

This software is being tested on PDO as well as mysqli. phpBB 2 now is capable of running up into the newer php regions such as 8.x and up.
